Clifford W. Palmateer
October 25th, 1923 - January 11th, 2006
Clifford W. Palmateer, 82, of McConchie Road, died Wednesday morning at home after a long illness with his loving family at his side. Born in Galway, New York on October 25, 1923, he was the son of the late Edgar H. and Lillie W. Reynolds Palmateer. He was a life long resident and attended Ballston Spa High School. Cliff was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, and served with the 795th Military Police Battalion in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatre and was in the battle of the Liberation of the Philippines where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was employed as a mechanic for thirty two years for the New York Tree Nursery in Saratoga Springs until retiring in 1979. Cliff enjoyed spending time with his family and years ago enjoyed hunting. On June 2, 1956, he married the former Arlene Deyo. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, John Palmateer and his wife Jeannette of Galway; a daughter, Susan Collins and her husband Joseph of Amsterdam; a brother, Floyd Palmateer of Galway; sisters, Clarise Reynolds of Galway and Alice Barnes of Ballston Spa; five grandchildren, Jacob, Alicia, Andrew, Tina and her husband Roosevelt and Anthony; four great grandchildren, Derek, Brianna, Jazmine and Sophia; one special nephew, Scott Everson and his wife Valerie and their family; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by four brothers, Ed, George, Kenneth and Paul and five sisters, Irene, Myrtle, Lula, Margaret and Lillie. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 12 noon, January 14, 2006, at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, N.Y. with the Chaplin Mary Ann Tynan officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in the Sweetman Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior from 11 to 12 on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Cliff?s memory to the Community Hospice of Saratoga County, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12144.
