Francis A. Weaver
December 22nd, 1923 - November 6th, 2005
Francis A. ?Charlie? Weaver of Gloversville, died November 6, 2005 at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a brief illness. He was 81. Mr. Weaver was born December 22, 1923 in Gloversville. He was the son of Ernest Henry Weaver and Jenny Burgess Weaver. He was a 1943 graduate of Gloversville High School and a US Army veteran of World War II. He was an engineer on the Fonda, Johnstown and Gloversville Railroad, and served in the Gloversville Fire Department from 1960 until 1986. During that time he held the ranks of private, Captain, Battalion Chief and finally Chief of the Gloversville Fire Department. He was a member of the International Fire Fighters Association, and was a Commissioner of the Gloversville Civil Service Commission for many years. He was also a member of the Gloversville Lions Club and served as Lion Tamer. He was a Knight of the Blind and a recipient of the Lion of the Year Award and the Robert J. Uplinger Award. Mr. Weaver was devoted to his family. He was an avid golfer, having taken up the game at age 62. He was a loyal Mets fan, loved fishing, loved the seashore, and always enjoyed a good joke. Francis is survived by his wife of 57 years Imogene Jean Miller Weaver of Gloversville, a son William E. Weaver of Gloversville, a daughter Sally Weaver Lampson and son-in-law Karl Lampson of Chatham Center, NY; one grandson Christian D. Weaver of Washington, DC; one granddaughter Phoebe E. Lampson of Chatham Center, nephews John E. Furlong, Rob R. Furlong, Gary D. Shulenburg, niece Gail S. Brown, several grand nieces and grand nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, his sisters Evelyn I. Furlong Wright and Helen E. Shulenburg, and one brother Donald E. Weaver. At Mr. Weaver?s request there will be no calling hours and a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Gloversville Lions Club, P.O. Box 8, Gloversville, or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, or to North Main St. United Methodist Church, 316 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078. Arrangements are by Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
