Mary Petrillo

Mary Petrillo, 93 of Amsterdam, NY, has gone to her eternal rest on Thursday October 6th, 2016 with her loving family by her side. Born on August 23rd, 1923 in Amsterdam NY, she was the daughter of the late Louise (Tangredi) and Joseph Torsone. Mary was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1941. She spent some time employed at Smart-Set Glove Company in Amsterdam in her younger years. On April 8th, 1945 Mary married the love of her life Alec G. Petrillo. It was a beautiful union that lasted until his passing on February 11th, 2009. Mary enjoyed gardening and dancing; she was a talented seamstress who was self-employed for many years. She enjoyed attending auctions and had an impressive collection of porcelain dolls. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, and was known for her Italian specialties and hosting memorable family gatherings. She loved spending time with her family and will be deeply missed. Her family presents her with a GOLD STAR. Mary is survived by her son Alan M. (Gayle) Petrillo; her sisters, Gloria (Ralph) Martuscello and Rita Elaine Kopec; her grandchildren, Lisa (Joe) Mirabile, Joshua Petrillo, Matthew (Trisha) Petrillo, and Sara (Jake) Wojtowecz; her daughter in-laws, Barb Petrillo and Christine Petrillo; her great grandchildren, Ryan, Kayli, Abrianna, Rhea, Joey, Alessandra, Julianna, and Rafaele. Loving nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband Alec; her sons, Dominick Joseph Petrillo and James Petrillo; and her sisters, Jane Torsone and Hilda Stanley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday October 10th, 2016 at 11am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. Jeffrey L'Arche MS as Celebrant. Interment will immediately follow at St. Michael's the Archangel Cemetery on Widow Susan Road in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday October 9th, 2016 from 5-7pm at Betz, Rossi, & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to the Montgomery County Office of the Aging, 135 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
