Walter C. Amberger
February 5th, 1924 - May 13th, 2016
Mr. Walter C. Amberger, 92, of Amsterdam, New York died peacefully on May 13, 2016 following a brief illness. Born on February 5, 1924 he was the son of the late Charles and Clara Amberger. A lifelong area resident, Walter attended local schools and served proudly in the United States Marine Corps during WWII and the Korean War. Following his discharge, he returned to Amsterdam where he began a long career with General Electric and Mohasco. Walter was a scratch golfer, champion bowler and a world class tinkerer. In his final years after the death of his beloved wife, Helene he spent his time residing in the company of his daughter in Long Island New York enjoying his immediate family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was predeceased by all of his siblings; and his wife, Helene Nienaltowski Amberger. Survivors include his daughter, Michele Teitelbaum and her husband William; two grandsons, Stephen and Adam Teitelbaum; and two great grandsons, Benjamin and Jacob; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services for Walter will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 2p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Relatives and friends are invited and may call for one hour prior to the service beginning at 1p.m. Burial will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery with military honors, where he will be laid next to his beloved wife.
