Robert M. Squires

Robert M. Squires, 61, of Gloversville passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born December 11, 1954 in Gloversville, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Ethel Hayes Squires. Robert was a 1973 graduate of Gloversville High School and the first student to graduate in a wheelchair. Following graduation Robert went on to obtain his bachelor's degree in human services from Empire State College. While at Empire State he was a member of the Phi Beta Kapa fraternity. Robert volunteered for many years at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville bringing a smile to everyone he met. He enjoyed being outside and enjoying nature's beauty, snowmobiles, watching NASCAR on Sunday's and enjoyed any type of electronic device that came with a remote control. Survivors include his beloved sisters Jeanne Baker (Bill) of Gloversville and Lori Squires (Ron Sobkowich) of Gloversville. Robert is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 2 P.M. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Saturday from 12 P.M. until time of service at the funeral home. Robert will be laid to rest at Perth Cemetery, Amsterdam. Per Robert's wishes casual dress is appreciated for funeral services.
