Antoni J. Jarosz
January 15th, 1930 - January 20th, 2018
Antoni J. Jarosz, 88, of Fort Johnson, NY, passed away January 20, 2018 with all of his family at his bedside. Born January 15, 1930 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of the late Antoni J. and Franciska Neznik Jarosz. Antoni was blessed to have shared his life with two extraordinary and loving women. He was married to Josephine Rogers on June 22, 1952 and they shared 50 remarkable, joyful years together until her passing on June 5, 2002. In 2010 he had the great fortune to be introduced to Elaine Ko-Talmadge and they have been inseparable, happily sharing each other's lives together ever since. Survivors include two sons, Roger A. Jarosz of Grand Gorge and David F. (Kelly) Jarosz of Saratoga Springs, one daughter, Jacqueline Jarosz (Paul Kovalovich) of Johnstown, and his partner Elaine Ko-Talmadge of Fort Johnson. Antoni took immense pride in his five exceptional grandchildren, Antoni John III, Chester Francis (Kayla), Jack David, Reed David and Caroline Kelly. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Mr. Jarosz was predeceased by his wife Josephine (Rogers) and his two brothers Edward and Chester Jarosz. During his lifetime Antoni was a 1947 graduate from Wilbur H. Lynch H.S. and proudly served his country joining the U.S. Army in 1948. He was with Company A, 79th Military Police Battalion during the Berlin Airlift and was awarded the Berlin Airlift Medal. While in Germany Antoni was trained and worked for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) our nation's first modern intelligence agency and the forerunner of the current CIA. He was recalled for active duty in October 1950 and sent to Korea in 1951. Always a talented basketball player, Antoni played in high school, for the army military police in Berlin, traveling to many countries and also in Amsterdam's Over 30 League in the 1970's. An active man, he was an avid cyclist his entire life, a hunter, a woodsman and a champion table tennis player at the GE. Mr. Jarosz was a welder in the Turbine Division at General Electric retiring in 1992. In his retirement he enjoyed both domestic and international travel, especially his winters spent in Florida. Throughout the years Antoni volunteered at St. Mary's Church, Bishop Scully High School and was an active member in the GFWC men's Booster Club. Relatives and friends are invited for a calling hour on Friday morning, January 26, 2018, between 10 and 11 a.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 42 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, 12010. Celebration of the Holy Eucharist will be immediately following and presided over by the Reverend William T. Hodgetts Jr. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Jarosz's name may be made to Saint Mary's Institute, c/o Development Office, 10 Kopernik Blvd., Amsterdam, NY 12010, or The American Cancer Society, P.O.
