Leonard Serafin
February 14th, 1929 - March 7th, 2016
Leonard Serafin, 87, of Amsterdam, passed away Monday morning March 7, 2016 at River Ridge Living Center LLC in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on February 14, 1929 a son of the late Albert and Anna (Kosiba) Serafin. He was also predeceased by his four sisters and three brothers. Leonard was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended Amsterdam schools. He worked as a roofer for many years in Schenectady, NY. He served in the US Army and Army National Guard. Leonard was an avid outdoorsman and passed on his lifelong love of hunting and fishing to his three sons and grandsons. He also won local awards for growing vegetables and flowers. He enjoyed sewing and puzzles as a past time as well. He leaves behind his five children, sons, Leonard Serafin Jr. of Amsterdam, David (Sabrina) Serafin of Amsterdam and Samuel (Gina) Serafin of Johnstown, NY, daughters, Linda(Dwight) Guess of Pattersonville, NY and Kathleen (Bruce)Atlas of Milford, MA as well as two brothers, Alfred Serafin of Amsterdam and Chester Serafin of PA. Twelve Grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside Services will be held in the Spring in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 or to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville, MD, 20852. Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home ,171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
