Mrs. Eleanor S. Avery, 91, of Maple Avenue, Hagaman, NY died peacefully on Thursday, June 14, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 28, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Henry and Margaret Glasby Stager. A lifelong area resident, Eleanor attended local schools. She worked for the telephone company, and later became a homemaker. She enjoyed collecting antiques and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. On January 25, 1947 she was united in marriage to Raymond L. “Hap” Avery. That union lasted 63 years until his passing on October 7, 2010. She was also predeceased by her sister, Noreen Schley. She is survived by her children, Sharon Forrest and her husband Phelps of Womelsdorf, PA, Margaret “Peggy” Collins and her husband Donald of Delanson, NY and Ray Avery and his wife Teresa of Brentwood, CA; two grandchildren, Beth Anne Forrest of Mayfield, NY and Olivia Avery of Brentwood, CA; and one sister, Marilyn Anderson of Ithaca, NY. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Kindred at Home, 100 Saratoga Village Blvd, Suite 5, Malta, NY 12020 or Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny Corners Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
