Ethel L. Mead
December 29th, 1937 - March 30th, 2020
Ethel L. Mead, 82, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2020 at Capstone Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, where she had been a resident since 2018. She was the daughter of the late Phillip and Ruth Martin Centerbar. Ethel spent all of her life in Amsterdam. On November 27, 1954 she was united in marriage to Harold E. Mead. That union ended on September 30, 2007 with his passing. Ethel spend most of her adult life working long hard hours at local knitting mills. Along with her husband, they both enjoyed spending time with one another and traveling visiting relatives. Ethel finally left her employment to become a full time caretaker for her husband Harold, until his death. Ethel was an avid walker and could be seen all throughout the city on any given day. Ethel’s last position before ill health, was cleaning the Public Safety Building. She made many friends and valued her friendships with everyone. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband; her siblings, Ernest Centerbar, Enos Centerbar, Edna Wilby, Eloise Gugliemelli, Eva Marie Star Stone, Evelyn Foggia and Emma Batist. Survivors include her sisters, Elsie (Phillip) Mueller and Ester Ilnicki; nieces, nephews and cousins. Due to the Covid-19 Outbreak, services are private. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA, PO Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
