May 13th, 1943 - June 18th, 2020
Kathleen D. Sorbero Steele, 77, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2020 after a visit with her family. She is pre-deceased by John M. Sorbero Steele her loving husband of 42 years. Kathleen will always be remembered as a devoted grandmother and lover of animals and wildlife. She was born in Amsterdam, NY on May 13, 1943 a daughter of the late Richard and Jean Downey. Kathleen was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and was a graduate of Amsterdam High School in the Class of 1961. She was employed for many years at and retired in 2001 from the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance in Albany, NY. Survivors include three sons, Richard (Julie) Steele, Mark (Melony) Sorbero and Scott (Joan Adamo) Steele of Rochester, NY and two grandchildren, Alexander and Thomas Steele. Two brothers, Richard (Nicole) Downey of Benodet, France and Michael Downey of St. Augustine, Florida. Plus many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday June 27, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 E. Main St. Amsterdam with Father Jeffrey M. L’Arche, M.S. as celebrant. Interment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, NY at 11:30 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Brain Foundation, 201 Chicago Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55415.
