Levina “Bobbie” M. Markes, of Amsterdam, passed away Saturday August 22, 2020 at home surrounded by her family following a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam on November 15, 1928 a daughter of the late Albert and Bridie Arndt. She was a lifelong area resident and attended Amsterdam schools. Bobby worked for many years at Fownes Bros. in Amsterdam, Wheelhorse Tractor and General Electric Co. in Schenectady while raising her four children. She was a member of the Horace Inman Senior Center and the Broadalbin Senior Center. She also was a Den Mother for Pack 21 and was an avid bowler and cards player. Bobbie was a beautiful person inside and out, touching the lives of everyone she knew. She was compassionate, loving and the backbone of her family. She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Frank A. (Anna) Alvarez, Elizabeth (Mike) Keller, Ken (Shiela) Alvarez and George (Terri) Alvarez. Grandchildren, Lori Alvarez, Darwyn Dery, Lisa Towsley, Frank Ryan Alvarez, Amanda Doherty, Ken Alvarez Jr., William Keller, Patrick Alvarez and Shaun Alvarez. She had 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Delsia Arndt and many nieces and nephews. In addition to both of her parents she was pre-deceased by her husbands, Dave Markes and Frank Alvarez, and her siblings, Maurice, Thomas, Marguarite (Tody), Eileen (Nini) and June. A Special Thank You to Dr. William Forlano and Dr. Michael Finnegan for their wonderful care. The family would also like to thank the caregivers from Community Hospice, Allie, Nicole and Suzanne. Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 27, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY with Father O. Robert DeMartinis presiding. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday August 26, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, please follow social distancing guidelines and wear a mask. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Horace J.Inman Center, 53 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
