Donald Lewis Going

Donald Lewis Going, died Thursday April 1, 2021 peacefully at home. He was born on May 4, 1932 in Amsterdam, N.Y. He was the son of the late Sadie Mehowski Going and Leonard Going. He is predeceased by his brother Earl Going. He graduated from Wilbur Lynch high school in 1950. He served in the United States Navy from 1951-1955. Don married his high school sweetheart Delsie Dantini. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, along with his daughter Sharon Barno (Edward) of Skaneateles, N.Y and his son Donald Going(Amy)of Wilton, N.Y., four grandchildren, Andrew Barno ( Lindsay),Meagan Zdep ( Chris),Collin Going (Liz), and Daniel Going (Austin), five great grandchildren Harper and Ed Barno, Caleb, Aiden, and Haley Zdep, and nieces and nephews. Don’s career was in sales. He worked at John Hancock, Eddy Brush, and AON insurance. He retired in 1991. Don enjoyed more than anything else being surrounded by family and friends. He loved cooking for them, painting, golfing, spending summers on Sacandaga Lake, winter trips to Florida, and most of all being a fun, loving, devoted grandfather and great grandfather. Don survived the pandemic of 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday April 12, 2021 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam, NY 12010 with Father O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Calling hours will be private and held at the convenience of the family. If attending the funeral mass please follow the NYS Guidelines for the Covid19 pandemic, observe social distancing and please wear a mask. Private interment will be held with Military Honors in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Amsterdam.
