Sophia Ottati Picciocca
September 28th, 1916 - June 20th, 2021
Mrs. Sophia “Sophie” Ottati Picciocca, 104, of Amsterdam, passed away on Sunday morning June 20, 2021 at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville with her loving Nephew Paul (Karen) Ottati at her side. Born in Amsterdam, NY on September 28, 1916 a daughter of the late Antonio and Carmella Petrosino Ottati. She was a lifelong area resident of Amsterdam and attended local schools. Sophie was employed at the former Gates Mills in Johnstown, NY and various other glove mills in the area. She retired in 1978. She was President of the St. Sofia Society of the former St. Michael the Archangel Church in Amsterdam. She also was a member of the St. Michael's Senior’s and was recently a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Sophie enjoyed traveling to Italy and Europe and various bus trips around the country. She is predeceased by her brothers, Vito Ottati and recently, the day before her passing, James D. “Jerry " Ottati on June 19. 2021. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Rafael Greco, Margaret DeRocco, Frances Genetempo, Jennie Greco, Grace Foster and Fannie Ottati. Sophie married Sabato "Sam" Picciocca on June 16, 1935 at St. Michael the Archangel R.C. Church. He passed away in 2006. Survivors include many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday June 30, 2021 at 1:00PM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John St. Amsterdam, NY with Father O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday prior to the funeral mass from 11:00AM to 12:00 Noon at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl. Memphis,TN, . Please leave condolences online at www.brbsfuneral.com.
