Michael E. Rush
January 6th, 1938 - October 31st, 2021
Michael E. Rush, 83, of Amsterdam, passed away on Sunday October 31, 2021 at Wilkinson Residential Health Care in Amsterdam following a brief illness. Born in Elmira, NY on January 6, 1938, Mike was the oldest son of the late Carroll and C. Mildred McCarthy Rush. He was a 1955 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Michael was a US Army Veteran serving from 1955 to 1958. Mike was employed by the New York State Office of General Services as Chief Financial Officer retiring in April 1995. He was a communicant of St. Thomas Church in Delmar and later Historic St. Mary's Church in Amsterdam. Michael enjoyed reading, golfing, traveling and tending to his animals-both indoors and out. He married Marcella Campbell on April 7, 1959. She passed away on May 31, 1992. Survivors include his loving companion, Irene Stim of Delmar, NY and his children, Nancy (Dominick) Peluso of Amsterdam, Ed Rush of Amsterdam, Patti Rush of Esperance, NY, and Steven (Noelle) Rush of Woodbridge, VA. Two brothers, Jack Rush of The Woodlands, Texas and Joe Rush of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, along with fourteen grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren also survive. He leaves his special aunt, Sister Mary Brigid McCarthy, SSJ of Rochester, NY. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, Claude (Janet) Campbell of Herkimer, NY and Gary Davis of Indiana. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Mike was predeceased by his oldest granddaughter, Jennifer Rush LaValley. A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Private interment with Military honors will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to E.L. Wilkinson Facility Activities Fund, 4988 State HWY 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010; Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or to the Montgomery County SPCA, PO Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
