Gladys E. Nieves, 65, of Amsterdam, New York passed away peacefully on January 13, 2022 at St. Mary's Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Gladys was born on January 24, 1956 to Juan Nieves and Paula Gonzales-Moya in Isabela, Puerto Rico. Gladys worked as a manager for Pizza Hut at the restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She later worked at the location in Aresibo, Puerto Rico, where she retired after 30 years to fight her battle against breast cancer. She won her battle against breast cancer, and moved to the Amsterdam area to be closer to her daughter, Johanny. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, friend, and the best grandmother ever. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor, her determination to put a smile on everyone’s face, and her mission to live her life full of happiness. Her loving family includes her husband, Jose Sanchez; her children, Jose Sanchez-Nieves, Johanny (Jossie Mercado) Sanchez-Nieves, and Alejandra Crespo, who she always treated as one of her own children; her grandchildren, Yahir Sosa, Odaliz Vega, Waldemar Vega, Neishka Vega, and Abdiel Vega; as well as her siblings, Ana Nieves, Carmen Nieves, Rafael Nieves, Miguel Nieves, and Edwin Nieves.
