Melissa S. Porath

Melissa Sue Porath, 51, of Amsterdam, New York passed away on Sunday July 31, 2022 at Ellis Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born on October 30, 1970 in Amsterdam to Mr. Thomas Porath Sr. and Mrs. Linda Meyers Gieseler. Melissa attended local schools graduating from Amsterdam High School, the class of 1988. A lifelong area resident Melissa was employed by several local businesses and later earned her CNA. She was most recently employed by the Sentinel in Amsterdam. Melissa was a loving person who was full of life. She enjoyed bowling, roller skating, and swimming, she loved spending time in the sun and enjoyed going to the Fonda race track with family and friends. More than anything Melissa loved being with her children and grandchildren, especially arts and crafts time with her granddaughter. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, fun loving attitude, and ability to make friends. Melissa is survived by her son Ryan LaGreca, daughter Alyssa (Davon Taylor) Porath, as well as her mother Linda Gieseler and step father Charles Gieseler. Her siblings include; Gregory (Amanda) Porath and Kimberly (Christopher) Brown. She also leaves behind her aunt Arlene Ogden, beloved grandchildren; Maeva, Armani, and Ashton, nephews; Thomas, Steven, and James, lifelong friends Kim and Sue, as well as extended family. She was preceded in death by her father Thomas Porath Sr., brother Thomas Porath Jr., and her beloved dog Lovey. A Service of Remembrance will take place on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 1:00PM at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home 171 Guy Park Ave Amsterdam, NY 12010. Family and friends are invited to calling hours scheduled for Tuesday August 9, 2022 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Melissa’s Family to assist with end of life costs.
