Joseph "Joe" Ukeritis
June 4th, 1950 - May 25th, 2023
Joseph Frank Ukeritis, 72, of Hagaman, NY, passed away on May 25th, 2023, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. Joe was born on June 4th, 1950, to the late Harry Joseph and Lillian (Sadowski) Uzkuraitis. Joe graduated with the 1968 class of the former Bishop Schully High School. He then completed the G.E Tool & Die apprentice course before receiving his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Union College in 1979. He worked at General Electric in Schenectady, NY, for many years before moving on to Martin Marietta and finally Lockheed Martin, retiring in 2007. He volunteered for 20 years as a NYS Hunter Education instructor. He was a lifelong member of the Sacandaga Boat Club, spending a lot of his time on the Great Sacandaga Reservoir. He loved teaching his family and friends about the outdoors, camping, fishing, and hunting. More recently, he spent his winters in St Simons Island, Georgia with the love of his life Anne Marie, whom he shared over 50 years with before his passing. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Lillian Uzkuraitis; and in-laws John and Anne Coluni. Joe is survived by his wife Anne Marie (Coluni) Ukeritis; children Betsy and Jennifer Ukeritis, Colleen Torres (Noel); grandson Marcus Torres; great granddaughters Ana Marie and Alaia Rose Torres; his sister, Sister of St. Joseph, Miriam Dorothy Ukeritis, CSJ, and several nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will take place on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 2:30 PM at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made by check to the NYS Council of Trout Unlimited Inc., 185 West John St, Hicksville, NY 11802-8049. On the check, please note that the donation is in memory of Joe Ukeritis, and it will be used for the youth programs to encourage a love for the outdoors and fishing.
