Luis F. Alicea

Luis F. Alicea, 69, of Amsterdam, New York, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2023 at Albany Medical Center. Luis was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on January 21, 1954. At the age of six Luis moved to New York City, where he was raised, with his parents and brother. After graduating from high school Luis attended Hostos Community College with his Associate’s Degree in Arts, and went on to graduate from City College of New York with his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Most recently Luis had been working towards his Master’s in Education. In 1998 Luis was united in Holy matrimony to Lydia Gonzalez at St. Michael’s Church in Amsterdam. After joining Lydia’s family he took to his in-laws as if they were his own parents, and loved to spend time with his niece and nephew. Luis had a great passion for poetry throughout his life. He was a member of the National Society of Poetry, and enjoyed spending his time writing poems and songs, as well as reading. In the past several years Luis joined the Time for Truth Ministries in Amsterdam, and had taken great joy in studying the Bible. He leaves behind his loving family, including his siblings, Pedro Centeno of the Bronx, Anita Alicea of New York City, Yolanda Alicea of Puerto Rico, Evelin Alicea, and Francesca Alicea of California; as well as his close cousin, Mercedez Diaz. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 4:00PM until 6:00PM at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010. A memorial service will follow the calling period at 6:00PM.
