Thomas Allen Porath Jr.
February 17th, 1963 - January 28th, 2018
Thomas Allen Porath Jr., 54, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2018 with his mother Linda, and his Aunt Arlene by his side. Thomas was born February 17, 1963 to Linda Meyer and Thomas A. Porath Sr. of Amsterdam, and was raised on his Uncle Harry’s Farm in the Town of Florida where he loved the great outdoors. Tom loved to ride and drive mini bikes, bicycles, field cars, go carts, dirt bikes, and horses with his family and all his cousins. He enjoyed drawing, attending rock concerts, parties, family picnics, and traveling to Las Vegas. A lifelong area resident, he attended Amsterdam schools and was later employed at Coleco industries. After moving to Florida to be with his grandmother, Mary Meyer, he worked as a sand blaster and a licensed barber. Tom is survived by parents Linda and Charles Gieseler, brother Gregory (Amanda) Porath, sisters Kimberly (Christopher) Brown, Melissa Porath, step sister Carol Jean (Mario) Lovilo, nephews Thomas, Steven, James, and Ryan, as well as niece Alyssa, and great niece Maeva. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Allen Porath Sr., maternal grandparents Mary and Edward Meyer, and paternal grandparents Irene and Arthur Porath, uncles Harry Meyer, Albert “Bucky” Meyer, and Merlin Ogden, as well as many cousins. A Service of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 12p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11a.m. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill.
