Richard L. Ballou, age 84, of Gloversville, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. He was born November 11, 1933 in Gloversville, the son of the late Milton and Grace VanPatten Ballou. He served in the US Navy 1953 to 1957. He was employed at Mohawk Cabinet prior to his career at General Electric Co. of Schenectady, where he retired from after 25 years of service. Dick was a lover of classic cars and participated in a number car shows over the years. He enjoyed bowling and golf and had an extensive collection of comic books and movie videos. He had an amazing sense of humor and a large circle of friends. Wherever he went he was always bound to run into someone he knew. He is survived by two daughters, Susan Gamboa of Gloversville and Michelle Gifford (Patrick) of Mayfield; his companion of many years, Lorraine D. Smith of Gloversville; three grandchildren, Chad Gamboa, Taylor Gifford and Gabriel Gifford; as well as a cousin, Nila Currier (Fred) of Florida. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 20 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville, where a Memorial Service will take place 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Dr. Moon Ho Kim officiating. Interment will follow at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Online condolences to the family may be made at www.brbsfuneral.com
