Dr. George McBurney Gray
October 12th, 1941 - August 11th, 2020
Dr. George McBurney Gray went to be with the Lord on August 11, 2020. He was born on October 12, 1941 to Charles and Mina Gray and born again on March 26, 1962. George felt called to the ministry and started training in Scotland at the Bible Training Institute and London University. He earned a Doctorate of Theology at Luther Rice Seminary and a Doctorate of Ministry at Fuller Seminary. George was a member of The British and The American Psychological Societies. While pastoring in Scotland he was invited by the American Baptist Association to be a pastor in Maine in 1970. He became a United States citizen in 1987 and loved his adopted country, but never forgot his roots and visited Ireland and Scotland often. He enjoyed listening to Irish & Scottish music and playing golf as often as he could. George pastored churches for 50 years in Ireland, Scotland, Maine, New York. Ohio and Florida where he also taught at Trinity Bible College for 10 years, retiring in 2017. Since returning to Upstate New York he was a member of the Johnstown Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, brother and son. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Christina, son Andrew (Tonia) Gray, daughter Charis Gray, grandsons Ryan, Jared & Braden Gray, brothers Norman Gray and Thomas Gray (Margaret), sisters in law Doris Best and Irene Gray, many nieces and nephews. George will be dearly missed by his dear friends Helen Perrone and Kathi Smith. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave; Gloversville NY 12078. Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, August 13th from 10 to 11 am at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. A private service will take place at the convenience of the family. Private burial will follow at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. They rest from their labors and their works do follow them. Revelation 14:13
