Virginia M. Sackett
January 8th, 1927 - June 4th, 2021
Virginia M. Sackett, age 94, of Johnstown, passed away Friday morning, June 4, 2021 at the home of her son in Fort Plain surrounded by her family. She was born January 8, 1927 in Johnstown, the daughter of the late William and Sophie Valachovic Laird. She worked in the retail industry and the telephone company as an operator for many years. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, the Sacandaga Swingers, a Life Member of the Johnstown PTA and the FJ&G Dancing Group. Virginia loved to dance, crochet, knit, play bingo and do crafting. She loved to share stories of the travels with her family and the beautiful memories of time spent camping at Caroga Lake. Virginia is survived by eight children, Nelson Sackett of S. Carolina, Sharon Conroy (Steve) of Broadalbin, Sandra Isabella (Alfred) of California, Brian Sackett (Mary) of Florida, Jeffrey Sackett of Seattle WA, Glenn Sackett (Karen) of N. Carolina, Terry Sackett (James) of Seattle, WA, Mark Sackett (Katie Mahon-Coupas) of Fort Plain; two brothers, Richard Laird of Caroga Lake and Carl Laird of Florida; 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Nelson Sackett; two children, Daniel Sackett and Gail Sackett; and five siblings, Arlene Lansing, William Laird, Donald Laird, Cecile Hurley and Jeanette Kretser. Relatives and friends are welcome from 11:00am to 1:00pm Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville and a graveside service at 2:30pm at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. A private funeral service will take place at the convenience of the family with Mother Laurie Garramone of St. John's Episcopal Church officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association Northeastern New York, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405 Albany, NY 12205 or to the American Diabetes Association, 2 Pine West Plaza, Suite 204 Albany, NY 12205.
