David M. Yates

David M. Yates, 73, of Caroga Lake, NY, passed away on Saturday November 27, 2021 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady following a brief illness. Born in Gloversville on July 18, 1948 a son of Burton H. and Dorothy M. Smith Yates. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School class of 1967. David was owner and operator along with his wife of Burton H. Yates and Sons Grocery Store in Caroga Lake. They also ran Adirondack Foothills Catering Co. for approximately 30 years. David was also employed at Sammons Communications Co./Time Warner Cable as a Senior Tech/Safety Officer in Johnstown retiring in 2006. He later became the Sales Manager for Red Carpet Housing in Johnstown where he retired from. Mr. Yates was an exempt member of the Caroga Lake Volunteer Fire Department and was awarded Fireman of the year during his active tenure. He also was employed as an EMT for the Fulton County Ambulance. David enjoyed traveling, boating, and camping especially with his children and family. He married Patricia Lee Rhodes Yates on June 14, 1969. In addition to his loving wife survivors include his children, Peter (Christina) Yates of Mayfield, NY, Michael (Tara) Yates of Caroga Lake, NY, Michelle (Richard) Brunt of Burnt Hills NY and Christine (Jim) Siudy of Amsterdam, NY. Brothers, Alan (Judy) Yates of Saratoga Springs, NY, Richard (Tina) Yates of Orlando , FL. A Sister, Kathy (Gregory) Smith of Gloversville, NY. He was predeceased by his sister, Diane Comtois on May 10, 2021. Surviving also are his thirteen cherished grandchildren, Chelsey, Adrean, Lyndsay, Lauryn, Carissa, Aaryn, Jackson, Logan, Izabella, Devin, Jonas, Jerrett and Jayce. One great-granddaughter, Lilianna. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held on Friday December 3, 2021 at 1:00Pm at Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Freemont St., Gloversville, NY with Rev. Joyce Royal presiding. Interment will follow at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday December 3, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00PM prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
