Elmer M. Shamon
April 13th, 1925 - December 19th, 2023
Elmer M. Shamon, 98, of Gloversville, died Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady. He was born April 13, 1925, in Peckville, PA; the son of Michael and Rose (Josie) Shamon. He served in the US Army for three years and was among those storming the beach on D-Day. He transferred to the US Air Force where he retired following a twenty-year career. He met the love of his life while in the Air Force and married the former Esther Frascatore. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he then began a twenty-year career for the New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation. He was a 50 plus year Mason, and recently a member of Fish House Lodge 298 F. & A.M; the "EAA" Adirondack Chapter 602 Experimental Aircraft Association of Fulton, Montgomery and Saratoga Counties, and the Church the Church of the Holy Spirit. An outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing for many decades. Elmer loved horse racing at Saratoga Raceway and visiting the Saratoga Racino. He enjoyed his daily morning breakfast with his friends at local diners, especially the Palace Diner. Elmer is survived by a son, Mark E. Shamon; four sisters-in-law, Louise Caruso, Leona Frascatore, Michelena Frascatore and Eugenia Clark; several nieces and nephews including close nephew and niece Michael Clark and Barbara Clark. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Esther (Frascatore) Shamon; his brothers, Richard Shamon and David Shamon; as well as his aunt, Sue Josie. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm Wednesday, December 27th at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville, where a Prayer Service will follow at 1:30 pm with the Rev. Matthew Wetsel officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Adirondack Architectural Heritage, 1745 Main St. Keesville, NY 12944. Online condolences to the family may be made at www.brbsfuneral.com
