Joseph A. Shalhoub, age 72, of Gloversville, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. He was born January 14, 1952, in Aita El Foukhar, Lebanon, the son of Andraos and Nour (Habib) Shalhoub. He came to the South Glens Falls area as a teenager and received his AAS degree at Adirondack Community College, where he met his future wife, Brenda. His BS degree in mathematics and education was achieved from SUNY Plattsburgh. Joe was employed as a Junior High math teacher and spent most of his career teaching at Hale Creek Facility until his retirement in 2013. His students in the prison system consistently had the highest GED passing rate in New York State Corrections. When asked about his success, he said "You need to do what you love". Joe is survived by his wife of 47 years, Brenda E. (Guiles) Shalhoub; two daughters, Heather Shalhoub and Crystal Shalhoub; four siblings, Rose Feghali, George Shalhoub, Fr. John Shalhoub and Elias Shalhoub; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Daniel J. Shalhoub; and a sister, Mary Shalhoub. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 6 pm Friday, April 5th at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville, where a Funeral Service will take place 10 am Saturday with Fr. John Shalhoub, brother of the deceased, officiating. Interment will take place later in the spring at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of NE New York, 3 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205.
