Anthony Sylvester Lombardo
April 9th, 1928 - November 5th, 2019
Anthony Sylvester Lombardo, 91, died on Tuesday, Nov. 5th at Francis House in Syracuse. Tony was born to Antonio and Mabel (Schaub) Lombardo on April 9, 1928 in Syracuse, NY. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church where he was involved with the Bread of Life, Fishes and Loaves, St. Kateri Tekakwitha Committee and other ministries and committees. Tony attended Syracuse City Schools including Delaware Elementary and Blodgett Vocational from where he graduated. He graduated from Champlain College with a B.A. in Business. He served in the US Armed Forces at Ft. Dix and was honorably discharged. While Tony had several jobs in sales and as the owner of a bar and a construction company, he was most proud of the 20 years he taught at his alma mater, Delaware Elementary from where he retired in 1983. Tony was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Arthur. He is survived by his close friends Jammie Ross, Fr. Steven Evans (St. Andrew’s) and Sister Pat Bergan, as well as all the saints at St. Lucy’s. Tony was extremely grateful for the care he received near the end of his life from St. Joseph’s Hospital, Francis House and Fr. Jim Mathews. A calling hour will be 11am-12pm followed by a 12 pm funeral mass on Friday, Nov 8th both at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, 432 Gifford St., Syracuse, NY. In lieu of flowers please donate and volunteer at your local food pantry and/or Francis House, 108 Michaels Avenue Syracuse, New York 13208. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt.
