Rafael Gonzalez, 84, of Syracuse, passed away on his birthday with his family by his side on Tuesday, September 8th. He was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico to his parents Paulino and Zoila Gonzalez. After moving to Syracuse he worked for General Motors for 28 years. In 1959 Rafael married the love of his life Yolande and immediately started their family. Rafael was predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers. In 1989 Rafael lost his son Rafael Jr. to cancer. Left to cherish his memory are; his bride of 61 years Yolande (Dignard); 4 daughters, Nancy (Victor) Soury, Linda and Yolande Gonzalez, Joanne (Christina) Gonzalez; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Juan and Eleuterio Gonzalez, Ramon Santiago; 4 sisters, Diega Torres, Ana Santiago, Carmen Hernandez and Carmen Santiago. Calling hours will be held from 4 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, September 10th at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina St., Syracuse, NY 13205. A funeral service will be at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow immediately in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, Valley Drive, Syracuse.
