Sandra "Sandy" Lee Smith
September 15th, 1952 - January 1st, 2022
Sandra “Sandy” Lee (Schankweiler) Smith, 69, of LaFayette NY, passed away Saturday January 1st 2022 at her own home. She was born in Shamokin, PA in 1952 to the late Marcus and Shirley (Deitrick) Schankweiler. Sandy loved her family, and had a deep love for people. She was active in her community, having been the founder of Crossroads Adventure in LaFayette- a thrill seeking ropes course; and was a long time member of Onativia United Methodist Church. Sandy was a kind, caring, funny, good hearted, generous person- always putting others’ needs ahead of her own. Sandy was an avid collector of many things, like her mother before her. Sandy had a sizable green thumb, investing her time in vegetable gardening, growing a variety of plants and flowers around her property. Sandy was good with her hands and well versed in cooking, baking, crochet, macrame, canning, and smoking of meats. Sandy is survived by: Ex-husband, Floyd Arthur Smith; children, Marcus (Madeline Christine Smith), Lacey, and Heidi Heloise Smith; grandson, Marley Rain Smith; sister, Carrie Dee (William) Wetherell; niece, Melanie Statlander, and nephew, David Mosher. There will be a private family service for Sandy, prior to her wishes of cremation. To have a memorial tree planted in an area of need in honor of Sandy, please use the Send Flowers link to the left. To light a memorial candle, or leave an online condolence for Sandy's family, please visit her Tribute Wall.
