RITA ELIZABETH MARTELLO DiCARLO, 100, of Haverstraw, New York, passed away on July 11th, 2022. A lifelong resident of Haverstraw, born to Concetta and Vincenzo, unofficially on May 31st, 1922 (officially recorded as June 1st, 1922). Rita graduated from Haverstraw High School in June, 1940. She was married to Donato F. DiCarlo, Sr., on June 22nd, 1946 and had four children, Donato, predeceased (Lynn); Amelia; Patrick, (Teriann), and Charles, (Linda). Rita was blessed with nine grandchildren: Daniel (Cate), Larry (Denise), Donato, David (Rachel) DiCarlo, Debbie (Garrett) Phillips; Francesca (Brendon) Barclay, Raymond Smith; Kelsey and Morgan DiCarlo and fifteen Great-Grandchildren: Austin, Tyler, Sierra, Charles Vincent; Isaac, Lauriana; Kai, River; Blair, Cassie, Alvin, Elizabeth; Julianna, Genevieve, Caterina and many nieces and nephews, who she dearly treasured. Rita is survived by her loving brother, Vincent (Vicky) Martello and predeceased by her siblings Saverio Martello, Daniel Martello, Elizabeth Cacioppo, Catherine Kwiecinski and Marian Vance. Rita was a Paralegal for the RC Public Defender, retiring in 1986. She was active in many organizations including: Haverstraw Senior Citizens, Past President; Girl Scouts; Boy Scouts; CDA Court Joan of Arc 604 (75 year member); Meals On Wheels of New City; Haverstraw Village Community Center; Interfaith Caring Committee; Rosary Society; and was a lifetime parishioner of St. Peter’s, St. Mary’s Church. In addition, she was the “keeper of the key” for the Chapel on Warren Avenue, devoted to the SS Maria Montevergine Society. Rita enjoyed cooking many delicious Italian dishes for family and friends throughout her life. The family will receive visitors on Thursday and Friday, July 14th and 15th, from 4 pm to 8 pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 133 Broadway, Haverstraw, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday, July 16th at St. Peter’s Church, Haverstraw, followed by internment at St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Peter’s Church.
