Leon "Lee" K. Johnson, aged 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 16, 2024, at Avalon Square. Born on June 10, 1929, in Eagle River, WI, Lee lived a full and vibrant life characterized by his dedication to education, love for his family, and passion for various hobbies and interests. Lee was a proud graduate of U.W. La Crosse and later earned his master’s degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. His professional career was marked by his role as a teacher in the Waukesha and Sussex Hamilton School Districts, where he influenced and inspired countless students. In addition to his professional endeavors, Lee was an active member of the Ambassadors of Harmony, a group that brought him immense joy. His hobbies included cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, wood carving, golf, and camping with his family. He was known for his easygoing and good-natured personality, and he cherished playing cards, Wii bowling, and any type of family game. Lee was married to Barbara J. Johnson (nee Thomas) on September 12, 1953. Together, they created a loving family, which includes their children: Sally Johnson and C. Scott. Lee is survived by his children C. Scott (Patricia) Johnson, and Sally Johnson (Mike Hinton), grandchildren; Katie (Scott) Richgels and Laura (Chad) Breyman, and his great-grandchildren, Quinn and Nile Breyman, and Aiden Richgels. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara, and infant daughters Rebecca and Betty Johnson, brothers Marvin and Wallace Johnson, and his parents, Oscar and Jennie (nee Ericson) Johnson. Lee's favorite quotes were "Love you back!" and "It's time for my vitamins," phrases that encapsulate his loving and humorous nature. A celebration of Lee's life will be held at the Avalon Square Chapel 222 Park Place Waukesha, WI, 53186 on Wednesday May 22, 2024. There is going to be a visitation from 3:00 p.m. until the start of services at 4:00 p.m. Lee will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, enthusiasm for life, and dedication to his family and community will always be remembered.
