Nancy "Nan" Kirby
April 30th, 1949 - May 25th, 2017
(nee Duwel) of Pewaukee, passed away peacefully following an illness, with loved ones by her side, on May 25 at the age of 68. Nan grew up in Waukesha. She graduated from Waukesha South High School, where she shared her musical gifts playing clarinet in band and orchestra. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed accompanying other musicians at recitals and competitions. She received her BA in English from Ripon College. She was active in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority where she made lifelong friends. Nan enjoyed a career as an elementary school teacher in Oak Creek, and later worked in sales at Dunn & Bradstreet in Glen Ellyn, IL. Nancy married the love of her life, Norman Kirby, in 1980. In 1988, while living in Glastonbury, CT Nancy and Norm began The Kirby Group, a management consulting business. They moved back to Wisconsin in 2004. Nancy spent a lifetime nurturing the relationships with her family and friends, always ready to help in any way she could. She was a devoted daughter who enjoyed accompanying her mom to various activities. Nancy was an inspiration and cheerleader to her family. She enjoyed spending time catching up with them and loved hearing stories of what was going on in their lives. She enjoyed vacationing with her husband, family and friends in warm sunny places. She also touched lives as a Stephen Ministries volunteer at the First Church of Christ Congregational in Glastonbury, CT. She had the gift of hospitality be it hosting events for business associates or holiday gatherings for family. She loved to make occasions special. Nancy is survived by her husband Norm, her mother Rosemary Duwel of Waukesha; brother Jim (Diane) Duwel of Waukesha; her step-children who she loved as her own, Kim (Eddie) Pacete of Puyallup WA, Kevin (Anne) Kirby of Wilmington DE, Kelly Kirby of Bronx NY, and Sherrie (Marty) Ivey of Broadway NC. She also leaves behind grand-children Mallory Mackie, Megan (Brent) Schenk, Ryan and Jenna Carlson; and niece and nephew Kelly and Brian Duwel. She is preceded in death by her father Raymond Duwel. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Nancy's life on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, 810 N East Avenue, Waukesha, WI. 53186. The visitation is from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. The memorial service will begin at 12:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Prairie Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Nancy's name to the Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin, Attn: Donations, 3720 N. 124th St. Ste. O Wauwatosa, WI 53222.
