Calvin D. Jewell
April 8th, 1924 - December 25th, 2018
Calvin Dean Jewell, age 94, of Arvada, Colorado died Tuesday night, December 25, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Born April 8, 1924 in Loveland, Colorado he was the son of the late Paul and Clara (Randall) Jewell. Cal graduated from College High School in Greeley, Colorado in 1942 and was a World War II veteran having served in the Pacific as a machinist mate second class from 1943-1946. After meeting at a dance, he married Barbara (Bobbie) Cox on February 10, 1952 in Lakewood, Colorado. He was employed as a railroad machinist for Burlington Northern Railroad for 42 years. During his tenure he served as Treasurer for the IAM Union. He was also a Freemason. Cal was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends whenever he could. He also enjoyed woodworking, all things railroad and annual camping trips with his family †" especially if there was wood to be chopped or a rousing game of volleyball or horseshoes to be had. Cal is survived by his two daughters, Jackie Franklin of Wake Forest, North Carolina and Sandy Stinson (Phil) of Plainfield, Indiana; three grandchildren, Jaycee Georgiev (Tihomir), Cole and Connor Stinson, and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Stefan Georgiev and nephews Paul and John Jewell and niece Jennifer Jewell. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother and his wife Bobbie who passed away in May 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, January 4, 2019 at Aspen Mortuary, 1350 Simms Street, Lakewood, CO 80401. A brief military service will follow soon after at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National World War II Museum, 945 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 70130 or at https://www.nationalww2museum.org/
