Patricia "Pat" M. MacKinnon

Patricia Mary MacKinnon, 78, of Jamesville, New York, passed away on June 14, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and cherished memories. Born on January 21, 1946, in San Francisco to Albert and Louella Smith, she married her beloved husband, Ross, in 1970, who preceded her in death. 

Patricia was a caring individual who loved to learn, played the piano, enjoyed travel and being in nature with her leisurely walks and hikes. Her favorite places were Ireland and the beach, enjoying Nags Head, Long Beach Island, and Cape Cod.  She also loved time at camp and hiking with her family in the Adirondacks and Colorado. She cherished spending time with her family and grandchildren, leaving behind children Kerry (Steve), Daniel (Melissa), and Stephen (Dani), as well as grandchildren who she adored - Ian, Allison, Amelia, Cole, and Macie. 

A graduate of Cornell and Columbia University, Patricia dedicated her career to being a First-Grade teacher at Pashley Elementary School in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District. Her passion for education and nurturing young minds left a lasting impact on her hundreds of young students.  During her time at BH-BL, she served as Vice President of the Teachers Association.  After her retirement from teaching, Pat volunteered with the League of Women Voters and Council Meadows.Ross was the love of her life and best friend.  Pat missed him greatly after his death in 2013.  They were married for 42 years and raised their three children to value education, time with family and travel/adventure.  Pat was also pre-deceased by her brother, Tom.  She is survived by her brother Matthew, sister JoAnne (Kevin), sister-in-law Karen (Bob) and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 4PM to 7PM on Monday, July 8th at Ballweg and Lunsford Funeral Home 4612 S. Salina St. Syracuse, NY 13205.

Burial will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville,NY 12871 on Tuesday, July 9th at 1PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice in her memory. Her family wishes to thank the many people who helped to care for her in her final years. Her kind smile, laughter and love for family & friends will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
