Antoinette "Nettie" C. Maniscalco
December 25th, 1942 - June 25th, 2024
“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” —A.A. Milne
Antoinette “Nettie” Maniscalco (nee Catrambone) of Wenonah, NJ, passed away on June 25th, 2024 at the age of 81.
Born to the late Bruno and Antoinette (nee Fortino) Catrambone on December 25th, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA. Nettie is the beloved oldest sister of Marianna (Jinx) and Bruno (Eileen). Growing up, Nettie attended John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School as the graduating class of 1960. She worked in her parent’s restaurant near 5th street in Philadelphia throughout her teenage years, where fate brought her and her soon to be husband, the late John J. Maniscalco (1997) together. John was dining in the restaurant when he first met Nettie and continued to visit the restaurant until Nettie was allowed to go on a date with him. The two felt a spark instantly, going on to get married with a beautiful church ceremony at Our Lady of Grace Parish in September of 1962 and spent a loving 35 years together until John’s passing. John and Nettie shared a love between them that was unlike any other, and they decided to share that love by welcoming their two loving children, John and Annette (Gary). As a family, they would often take trips to Thompson’s Beach to fish and crab off of the pier, go out to dinner, and travel together. Eventually, John and Annette grew up to have their own children, making Nettie’s world much brighter. Nettie became the cherished grandmother of Michael, John III, Sarah, Louis, and Nicholas. She loved spending her days with her grandchildren, whether it was supporting their school events or sports games, Nettie was there. Her love of family did not stop at her immediate family, but extended to her many nieces and nephews.
Nettie’s love language was cooking and baking. She connected with those around her through her chicken cutlets, gravy, or her famous ricotta cheesecake. Nettie often prepared a homemade meal for her family and made sure everyone was seated at the table , especially for Sunday dinner. During the holidays, Nettie’s Super Bowl was creating the Seven Fish experience for her family. While she looked forward to preparing the Seven Fishes, she would also bake delicious Christmas cookies that she often had to hide from her family so there would be enough for Christmas Dinner. Her family recalls how Nettie would hide her cookies by gift-wrapping them in a Christmas present under the tree, just so her family wouldn’t eat them. Hosting for her family did not just pertain to the holidays, Nettie loved having the entire family together throughout the year whether it was family BBQs, Sunday dinners, or lending a helping hand at her son’s restaurant, Not Just Pizza in Sicklerville, NJ.
When Nettie was not spending time with her family and friends, she was often found by the beach. Nettie had so much love for the beach, feeling the warm sun on her skin, feeling her feet on the hot sand, and of course, seeing the palm trees. One of Nettie’s favorite plants was the Palm Tree, as it reminded her of tropical Florida weather while she lived inNew Jersey. As she got older and the beach was harder to get to, Nettie would sit on a bench on the boardwalk to watch the waves crash on the shoreline. Nettie also enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies and playing the slots in the casinos.
Nettie is remembered fondly for her compassionate, kindhearted personality and love for her family.
