Aspen Mortuaries - Lakewood
Jennie Adele Newman
September 16th, 1923 - January 24th, 2018
Jennie Adele Newman Jennie, age 94, passed away on January 24, 2018 at the Brookdale Meridian Senior Living Center where she had lived for several years. Jennie was born September 16, 1923 in Pueblo, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Fred Elmer Newman. Whether you knew her by Mom, Grandma Jennie, Aunt Jennie, or just Jennie, she was much loved and will be very much missed by her three children, Dennis Newman, Susan Leedy, and Bonnie Emery, as well as her 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and many other friends and family. Jennie was born to Samuel Harrison Wasson and Catherine Violet (Sayhouse) Wasson in Pueblo. She and her three sisters grew up there. Jennie graduated from Pueblo Junior College, studying music. She married Elmer on June 30, 1943. When he returned from action in Europe in 1944, they moved to Boulder while Elmer completed his degree at CU. They then returned to Pueblo in 1947 and Elmer worked at the CF&I. During this time Jennie was primarily a caring mother, but also was the church organist at the Evangelical United Brethren church there, which she dearly loved. After moving to Westminster in 1959 and as her children gradually left the nest, Jennie began a career at the Colorado National Bank. She later became a docent at the Arvada Center for the Arts and volunteered there for 24 years. Being an art docent fit right in with her love of art, people, and education. Jennie will be interred later this spring at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, with a celebration of life to follow.
