Thurston A Faris
December 19th, 1934 - June 20th, 2024
TSgt Thurston A. Faris, USAF Ret. Passed away on Sunday June 30th, 2024, at the age of 89. Sgt. Faris was born in DeWitt (Dinwiddie County) Virginia on December 19th 1934. The son of Thurston H. and Mary M. Faris (nee) Grisom. He is survived by his loving wife June A. Faris (nee) Meyer. They share their 69 plus years together. One son William A. Farris Sr and his wife Pamela two grandchildren, Theresa A. (Gary)and William A. Faris Jr. Three great-grandchildren, Madison Leann Reed, Finley Ann and Blaine Allen Faris. Two sisters, Betty Williams of Emporia, Virginia and Peggy A. Phelps (Jimmie) of Jarrett, Virginia, one niece and three nephews plus several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Jane Oakley.
The Sgt. entered the Us Air Force from the Army National in August 1952 and faithfully until February of 1973.
His state side assignments were, Sampson AFB, NY, Mitchell AFB, NY, Niagara Falls Municipal Airport, NY, Hq. ADC Colorado Springs, Co. The Pentagon Washington D.C. and Bolling AFB D.C. He served overseas in France, Italy and Greenland. He was awarded the AFCM w/OL, AFGM w/4OL, GCM w/4loops, NDSM w/Bronze star, AFOUS w/ 1 OL plus others. He is a graduate of Edison and So. FL with Degrees in Business and Criminal Justice.
Sgt. Faris is also retired from the Sate of Florida Department of Corrections. He is a life member of the Air Force Association, Air Force Sergeant Association, Air Force Military Society, American Legion Post 103 and the Elks Lodge 2606. Sgt. Faris is also a Charter Sponsor of the Air Force Memorial Foundation.
A visitation will be held on Monday July 8th, 2024, from 10-11am followed by a funeral service with full military honors at 11am at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home 9400 Indian Spring Cemetery Rd. Punta Gorda, FL. Private interment will be held in Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, FL. In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made in Sgt. Faris name to the American Legion or CAP.
