Shirley L. Ison Hensley, 76, wife of Charles E. Hensley, Sr., passed away at home on Sunday, June 30, 2024, in Lexington, Kentucky, surrounded by her loving family. 

 

She was born on September 5, 1947, in Matewan, WV to the late Carlton E. Ison and Nesbit F. New Ison. She was a former member of Hilltop Methodist Church (previously Louisa United Methodist Church) in Louisa, KY, and a current member of St. Luke Church in Lexington, KY. She was a 1965 graduate of Louisa High School and attended Morehead State University. She was a member of Bryan Station Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Lexington, KY.  

 

Shirley enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was deeply devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and the Lord. She loved family vacations, gardening and time spent in devotion/prayer. She also delighted in serving at God’s Pantry and was an avid UK basketball and football fan.  She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and generosity.  

 

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charles E. Hensley of Lexington, KY; one daughter, Kimberly L. Fraley (Shannon) of Lexington, KY; one son, Charles E. “Eddie” Hensley, Jr. (Dana) of Canton, GA; five grandchildren, Addison G. Hensley Ellis (Cody) of Lexington, KY; Harrison C. Fraley of Lexington, KY; Presley L. Hensley of Canton, GA; Cylas E. Hensley of Canton, GA; and Luke C. Fraley of Lexington, KY; sister-in-law, Deborah S. Pennington of Lexington, KY. She is preceded in death by her brother, Carlton E. Ison, Jr. and sister-in-laws Carlotta L. Lassiter and Denise K. Deitz. 

 

Services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, with visitation beginning at 11:00 am and a Celebration of life to follow at 12:15 pm at St. Luke Church in Lexington, KY officiated by Rev. Dr. Brian Ebel. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Luke Church in Lexington, KY. or Bluegrass Care Navigators of Lexington.
