Northern Colorado Crematory
Mary O'Canas
March 14th, 1947 - July 4th, 2024
Mary (Vasquez) O’Canas, age 77, of Greeley, passed peacefully in her home on July 4, 2024, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was born on March 14, 1947, in Slaton, Tx to Anselmo and Refugia (Briones) Vasquez. In her adolescent years, Mary worked alongside her father and siblings as a migrant worker in Colorado, Nebraska, Texas and Washington state. She later earned her Certified Nurse’s Aide certificate and worked as a C.N.A. until retirement.
Mary dedicated her life caring for others and was a true matriarch of her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her favorite pastimes were visiting with her family, working in her flower beds, listening to Tejano and Oldies music and watching true crime shows. She especially enjoyed days when the weather was sunny and cool, and she would sit outside and watch her great-grandchildren play in her yard.
She is survived by a son, Daniel O’Canas; two daughters, Rose Silva and Pauline Campos; grandson, Marko Silva; granddaughters, Victoria Dominquez, Amber Dominquez, Daneka Dominquez, Korrie Dominquez and Gabriella Silva; great-grandsons Matthew Standen, Liam McCarty, Noah Gomez and Archie Silva, great-granddaughters Skylar Wick, Savannah Neergaard-Dominquez, Milana McCarty and Eva Gomez; three brothers, Juan Vasquez, Anselmo Vasquez, Jr., and Daniel Vasquez; three sisters, Sylvia San Miguel, Yolanda Carrizalez and Lupe Aguallo, and countless nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Marcos Vasquez, Valentin Vasquez, Pedro “Pete” Vasquez, Pablo “Paul” Vasquez and Jose “Joe” Vasquez, sisters, Rosita Vasquez, Refugia “Connie” Guerrero and Dominga “Minga” Aguilar.
Mary will be greatly missed, and her legacy of love for family will live on through her children and grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Brush, Colorado.
