Peggy Adams Maddox
December 26th, 1945 - July 9th, 2024
Peggy Adams Maddox, 78, of Bryson City, departed this life into God’s kingdom on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. After a lifetime of loving and talking with Jesus, Peggy has finally met him face-to-face. Afterwards, she will be attending a family reunion with family, friends and loved ones who went before her. Born in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Dewey (Dude) Luther Adams and Bennie Elliott Adams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Jerry Luther Adams (Creedmoor NC). She was aproud and active life-time member of Whittier United Methodist Church. Peggy leaves behind a legacy of love beyond measure. Her life was a shining example of one of God’s “special” angels. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Keith Maddox; children Nathan Maddox (Nancy) of Franklin NC, Tonia Maddox Edwards of Whittier NC; three grandchildren, Savanna and Sarah Maddox of Franklin NC, Samual Edwards of Whittier NC; sister-in-law Kay LeQuire Adams of Creedmoor NC and her two daughters and their families; (niece) Connie Adams Boone (Rodney Boone) their daughters; (great nieces) Erin Casey Boone Wyatt (Lee Wyatt) with one son, Bennett Boone Wyatt; Renee Dawn Boone (Dustin Walters); (niece) Dawn Adams Adcock (Curry Adcock) their children(great niece) Kerri Adcock Black (Matt Black) with two children Vera Grace Black and Kurt Black; (great nephew) Stuart Lee Adcock (Harli Sam’s) with one son, Jerry Han Adcock all of Creedmoor, NC; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Rodney and Lacey Maddox (Wake Forest) and their children Maria, Marina and Cristina; (great nieces) Alympia and Lara all from Raleigh; also, friends too numerous to name, whomPeggyloved and cherished as her “own”. Peggy grew up in Whittier and attended Whittier elementary, graduated from Swain County High School in 1964 and shortly after graduated from Knoxville Business School. While attending Knoxville Business School she worked as a secretary in the draft induction center in Knoxville, TN. In addition, she has worked as a secretary at Unto These Hills and Cherokee CETA, a teacher at South Western Community College, a paralegal at Holt, Haire and Bridges Law firm, co-owner of Nantahala Rafts and Gorgarama Park, as a co-owner/salesperson at Wesser Ruby Mine at the Swain County, Florida State Fair, and NC State Fair locations. Civically, she has served on the Whittier P.T.A., as a Democratic judge during elections at Almond School, chairman of the Swain Co Health board. Governor Jim Hunt appointed her to the N.C. State Health Board that met in Raleigh, NC and she was recognized as Democrat of the Year by Representative Liston B. Ramsey. There will be no service, per Peggy’s wishes.
