Virginia Lorraine "Ginnie" Graves August 9, 1949 - May 10, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Virginia Lorraine Graves, affectionately known as Ginnie, on May 10, 2024, in Syracuse, NY, after a brave battle with pneumonia. Ginnie was born on August 9, 1949, in Lincoln, Maine, where she began her journey through life filled with love, kindness, and unwavering strength.

Early in her life, Ginnie worked as a respiratory therapist assistant and in a dental office as well. She was a talented musician, playing both the guitar and piano, and an accomplished artist who loved painting and drawing. Ginnie also enjoyed sewing, creating beautiful clothing and dolls. As a devout Christian, she attended many churches in the Ithaca, NY area, where she lived for the majority of her life.

Ginnie is survived by her two children, Steve Vonderweidt (wife Yvonne Vonderweidt and his children André Vonderweidt, Callisthène Vonderweidt, Arielle Vonderweidt, and Jeannette Vonderweidt) and Chris Vonderweidt (wife Melissa Paine and their children Amelie Vonderweidt and Sophie Vonderweidt). She is also survived by her two sisters, Lorania Graves-Gallant and Rebecca Morin, and her brother Thomas Graves II.

Ginnie had a vibrant personality and a zest for life, which was evident in her many hobbies and interests. She loved music, particularly artists like Keith Green, Chris Porter, and Ted Sandquist. Her heart always belonged to Maine, and she treasured the times she could visit. At her assisted living center, the Bernadine in Syracuse, NY, Ginnie was well-known and loved. She led Bible studies and art classes, sharing her love of oil painting with friends.

Despite being disabled and battling numerous illnesses for most of her life, Ginnie always made the best of it, bringing joy to those around her. She cherished spending time with her family and spreading positivity wherever she went.

In accordance with her wishes, there will not be a traditional service. Ginnie requested a small ceremony and that her ashes be spread at Pemaquid Point in Maine. This private ceremony took place at the beginning of July, with her children Steve, Chris, and their families honoring her final request.

Ginnie's departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in peace.
