Maureen E. Grossman
April 19th, 1946 - July 13th, 2024
Maureen E. (Wellbery) Grossman passed away peacefully with her family at her side on July 13, 2024 at the age 78.
Maureen was born in Waterloo, New York, to Elizabeth (Coughlin) and Robert Wellbery on April 19, 1946. She graduated from Waterloo Central High School in 1964, and St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, Elmira NY, in 1967.
On October 12, 1979, Maureen married the love of her life, Joseph H. Grossman. They were married for 35 years before his passing on August 26, 2014.
Maureen started her nursing career at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse. She eventually became the Charge nurse for the Cardiac Intensive Care unit. Her love for the elderly changed her career path to rehabilitation and long-term care facilities. She was the Director of Nursing at several long-term care facilities in the Syracuse region as well as Oswego.
She was active in her faith community of St. James Church (now known as Our Lady of Hope) as a lay lector and Communion Minister.
She leaves behind her son Robert Grossman, daughter-in-law Kara Helstein, stepdaughter Rebecca Wojcik, and Stepson David Grossman; grandchildren Lana, Christopher, Joey, Jilly, and Connor; brother William Wellbery as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was blessed with many wonderful friends throughout the years who she loved dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. She was especially close to a life-long friend Peggy Clark. The family is grateful to Michele Ryan, who was a friend and helped Maureen in many ways over recent years.
Calling hours will be held at the Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, on Thursday July 18 from 3pm to 6pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday July 19 at 10:30am at Our Lady Of Hope Church, 4845 S. Salina Street, Syracuse. The rite of Committal and burial will be at Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
