John H. Jones
June 13th, 1942 - July 12th, 2024
He was a good teacher at the U.W., an accomplished engineer at Boeing, and most importantly, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
John Harry Jones, son of Dr. John Hammond Jones and Lillie A. Davis Jones, was born June 13, 1942 and died in Lynnwood on July 12, 2024. He had one sister, Mary Agnes Edwards, who passed away in 2018. He grew up on the family farm southeast of Longmont, Colorado, moving with the family into Longmont in 1952. He attended schools in and around Longmont until the family moved to Westminster, Colorado in 1958. He graduated from Westminster High School in 1960 and attended the Colorado School of Mines where he earned B.S. (1964), M.S. (1967), and Ph.D. (1969) degrees in Metallurgical Engineering.
He taught in the Department of Mining, Metallurgical, and Ceramic Engineering at the University of Washington from 1969 to 1976. He then worked as a materials engineer for the Boeing Commercial Airplane Company from 1976 till retirement in 2010.
On June 21, 1965, he and the love of his life, Merrily Fae Miles, were married in Denver, Colorado. They had five children: Kirk (Kirstin Hoff), Suzanne (Jeffrey Kyle), Angela (David Powers), Andrea (Kenneth Williams), and Steven (Shayna Beach); thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was a good teacher at the U.W., an accomplished engineer at Boeing, and most importantly, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He enjoyed going to Husky games and vacations and travel, especially with his family; great family times around all the holidays, birthdays, and significant events; playing golf, using his own rules; reading many, many books on a large variety of subjects; collecting many, many rock and mineral figures, coins, paperweights, ornaments, and stuff. He taught a lot of classes on a lot of subjects, including many years of tutoring grandchildren almost everything, especially math, and involving over 60 years in the Church of Christ.
He was truly thankful for every day of life on Earth God gave him and for his loving family, through which he experienced what God’s love is all about. His family was everything to him, and thank God, he is looking to the day when they will all be, through God’s grace and love, together again for all eternity.
