Elizabeth Ann Modzelewski
December 8th, 1942 - July 14th, 2024
“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” —A.A. Milne
Elizabeth Ann Modzelewski (Neveling) nee Sparks of West Deptford, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at the age of 81.
Born to the late Joseph and Laura Sparks (nee Clement) on December 8th, 1942, Elizabeth attended Paulsboro High School. She then went on to graduate from Cosmetology school to pursue her love of hairdressing. Growing up, Elizabeth lived with her family in Thorofare before settling down in Verga with her first husband, the late John Neveling, Jr.
Elizabeth is the beloved wife of John Modzelewski, cherished mother of John Neveling (Michelle), Robbie Neveling (Colleen), Alisa Brzozowski (John) and Linda Bohn (Mark). She is the devoted grandmother of John Brzozowski, Taylor Neveling, Megan Neveling (Brian Leone), Danielle Brzozowski (Anthony Lawrence) Morgan Neveling (Todd Batten), Kaci Neveling, and Johnny Neveling and the loving great-grandmother of Gracee Leone, Skyla Lawrence, Stella Lawrence, Luna Lawrence, and Jolene Batten.
Elizabeth flourished as a grandmother and great-grandmother. Having her little ones around to bring laughter and love to the house brought light to her eyes. She attended every event that her grand and great-grandchildren participated in, from softball games to gymnastics competitions to birthday parties. Family meant everything to Elizabeth. She would often drive by to just say hello to her grandchildren or would host a special tea party with her girls. She met her first love, John Neveling Jr., and they went on their first date in Avalon. The pair later married in February of 1962 and quickly began a life filled with adventure and happiness. Together they enjoyed spending summer vacation with their children at their cherished cottage in New York. As a family, they enjoyed boating and canoeing on the lake. Elizabeth’s children fondly remember family vacations to New York, Colorado and New Hampshire.
After John’s passing in 1997, Elizabeth began working at Underwood Memorial Hospital, where she soon found love again with her husband, John Modzelewski. The pair married in 1999 and shared their love of watching the Philadelphia Phillies together, as well as going to breakfast at local restaurants, taking walks, and truly enjoying each other’s company.
Throughout her life, Elizabeth worked at The Powder Puff Beauty Parlor in Woodbury, as well as the West Deptford School System as the Cafeteria Manager. She was a beloved member of The Order of The Eastern Star – Woodbury Chapter. Elizabeth had many hobbies such as knitting, crocheting, sewing, baking, and cooking. Her family fondly remembers her delicious potato salad, pumpkin rolls, pound cake, and lasagna.
Elizabeth is remembered adoringly for her charismatic, loving personality and admiration for her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to Elizabeth’s visitation on Monday, July 22, 2024, from 10am – 11am at McGuinness Funeral Home, located at 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury NJ, 08096.
