James Albert Brewer was born on July 12th, 1949 and died comfortably at home in the Seattle area with loved ones in the early morning hours of July 13th, 2024. Known by most as Jim and to some as Jimmy, he lived a full life. Travel was in his blood, and after starting out as an electrical engineer, his adventurous spirit led him to take flight. His career as a pilot spanned decades and took him across the globe to fulfill his travel bug. When he finally settled, flying was still his passion so he began instructing pilots and enjoyed his time in the flight simulator with his students.
Jim always needed to be busy. When he was home he always had projects on the go. Constant maintenance and home improvement details were ticked off the list year by year, the cars always needed a little tweak here and a new part there, and his boat was a haven for his tinkering. His endless projects at the house didn’t stop him from getting out to play rugby, compete in whitewater kayaking, escape to the ski hill or go cycling when he wasn’t in some exotic locale. Additionally, Jim loved his sheepdogs and Scottish terriers, even supporting Scottish Terrier Rescue in Seattle. Occasionally he would relax, but inevitably the crossword puzzle would come out to keep his mind engaged.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Kelli Hembree and her sons Harvey and Anthony; his children from his prior marriage to Judith Brewer: James Brewer (Rebecca) and Megan Brewer; his grandchildren James and William; his step sisters Jean Landrie (Rob), Bonnie Pearce, Sue Griffin (Terry); stepbrother Mike Pearce, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by step-sister Chris.
Jim didn’t wish for a funeral but a celebration of life. If you would like to attend, one will be held in Calgary and another in Seattle, the dates and times to be determined. Please email the family at [email protected] to be contacted with the details when they are finalized and perhaps share an anecdote or two about Jim.
