Master of Jazz, 3-D Art, and Holographic Space

Selwyn Lissack (born in South Africa in July 1942), musician, three-dimensional artist, author, lecturer, and entrepreneur, passed away peacefully in Tucson, Arizona at Pepi's House in January 2024.

Selwyn's love for music began at the early age of 5, when his cousin, Roland, gave him his first drum set. He studied music privately and at Cape Town University. The schools at that time were limited to teaching the basic traditional music. Having a passion for jazz, Selwyn was a big influence in the underground jazz movement. After several years of pushing the boundaries of the music genre, he moved to London to pursue his music career. His talent and love for free form jazz took him around the world, playing with the top jazz musicians in concerts in Africa, London, Paris, and the U.S.

In 2005, Selwyn moved to Tucson, Arizona with his wife, Linda, where he enjoyed playing local events with the top jazz musicians.

Selwyn shared his passion for music with the pursuit of the perfect blend of art and technology. He experimented in three-dimensional art by painting inside of resin to create alien landscapes. His quest to work in the 3rd and 4th dimension eventually led him to holography. In the early 1970s, he was best known for his collaboration with the legendary artist, Salvador Dali, and together they created seven holographic works of art. Selwyn explains his magical journey with Dali and holography in his book, Dali in Holographic Space, which he wrote in 2012 with his wife, Linda.

Selwyn was president of Laserworks, a company that manufactured Laser Systems. he was awarded several patents in Laser Scanning technology, which could write and create animation.

Selwyn was unique, as his friends would say, he was wired in a special way. He was loved and will be truly missed, as a gentle and deep-thinking artist with a sense of humor.

Selwyn is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Lissack, sister Elinor Keren and family, Jeanette Madden, Kathy and Eric Nelson, aunt Queenie, cousin Keith Weiner and family, cousin Roland Wood and his family, his Tucson family Barbara, Alex and Patrick Brock, Ginger Green, Marty, Michelle and Carolyn Askew, Diana Dee, and Ellen and Rick Lang.
