Capt. Katherine Schafer Lindgren (US Navy Ret.)
December 24th, 1944 - July 21st, 2024
US Navy (Ret.) Captain and Professor Emerita Dr. Katherine “Kay” Schafer Lindgren died peacefully at her residence on July 21, 2024. She was 79 years old.
A memorial service will be held privately at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. She will be laid to rest with full military honors next to her beloved husband, Thomas C. Lindgren.
She was born December 24, 1944, in Athens, Georgia to the late Edward P. Schafer and Julia R. Schafer. Kay served her country in the United States Navy in healthcare and later became an educator. Kay enjoyed traveling the world, visiting every continent on earth. She also enjoyed reading, dining, and bridge.
She is survived by her children: Dr. Michael P. Davis (Pam) and J. Bradley Davis; grandchildren: Julia Davis, Katie Davis, and William Davis; brother, Dr. Edward A. Schafer (Grace) of San Diego, California and sister, Jacquelin S. Erickson (Link) of Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given to the Dementia Society of America.
