William Howard Pendergast
April 20th, 1942 - July 16th, 2024
William Howard Pendergast passed away July 16, 2024, in Olympia, Washington, his home of 52 years. He was born April 20, 1942, to Howard Montgomery Pendergast and Maria Ann Kelley in Seattle, Washington.
William graduated from high school in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1960 and later earned an AA in Engineering from Seattle University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1966 in Vietnam and other Southeast Asia countries.
Professionally, William was a Ma Bell lineman (1967-1972), worked in engineering (1972-1997), and contracted with U.S. West (1997-2017). He volunteered at the Olympia Amtrack train station from 2017 to 2023.
William married JoAnn Horner on July 2, 2000, in Olympia. She passed away June 30, 2024, 16 days before he passed.
William was an honorable, giving and loving man. He especially loved the outdoors, working on his property, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed reading. He was a member of The American Legion.
He is survived by his sons, Shawn (Terrie) Pendergast, Robert (Jerilynn) Pendergast, and Kevin (Alissa) Widmer; daughter, Theresa (Gary) Griffin; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
There will be a private family service.
Memorial donations may be made to The American Legion or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
