Donald Lawrence (Larry) Moody
1936 – 2024
Donald (Don) Lawrence (Larry) Moody passed away on July 22, 2024 at Banner Hospice in Greeley, CO. He was born on December 7, 1936 in Greeley, Colorado to Donald Arthur and Marjorie Winifred (Wallace) Moody. He attended grade school at Hazelton School west of Greeley. He then went to Meeker Junior High School and transferred to College High School graduating in 1954. He later graduated from AIMS Community College and attended University of Northern Colorado.
After high school graduation he enrolled at Colorado A&M (CSU) and attended there until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1955. He went to school and was stationed at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Virginia until the last 14 months of his service. He was, then stationed aboard the USS Washoe County LST 1165. He was honorably discharged in June 1959.
He married his high school sweetheart, Alice Hockaday on August 28, 1955. To this union was born two daughters and one son. Catherine Alleane, Barbara Ann and Michael Lawrence. They were blessed with nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
After being discharged from the service he worked for Stan Rapp Service station in Evans, Colorado and then worked for Valley Oil Company delivering propane. He then Worked as an apprentice electrician until he went back out to help his family’s dairy, west of Greeley in May 1965. He bought out his dad’s share of the dairy.
He owned the dairy until selling out in August of 1988. He then went to work for Monfort Packing Plant as a supervisor until retiring in December of 2001.
He belonged to Hazelton 4-H. He was on the State Dairy judging team in 1951 and won first place.
Donald was a 65 year life member of Colorado AF & AM initiated into Occidental Lodge #20 in Greeley until transferring his membership to Century Lodge #190. He was a life member of Scottish Rite and Shriners. He was a 60 year plus member of Garden City Chapter No. 3 in Greeley and served as Worthy Patron five times. He served the Grand Chapter of Colorado as Grand Chaplain in 2013. He was a 60 year plus member of Mahi White Shrine #18 in Greeley serving as Watchman of Shepherds several times.
He also worked with Bethel #10 Jobs Daughters serving as Associate Bethel Guardian several times. He worked with Windsor Assembly #58 and Greeley Assembly #6 IORG serving as Rainbow dad a number of times.
He was a member of Union Colony Pioneers of Greeley, he was a member of LaSalle Presbyterian Church. He served as Deacon and was an Elder. He also served on the committee on ministry for the Presbytery of the Plains and Peaks and was a lay pastor filling the pulpit in small towns in Northern Colorado.
He volunteered for Meals on Wheels delivering meals and serving on the Board of Directors for that organization for several years. He is past president of the Board of Directors.
He is survived by his wife Alice and children – Catherine (Richard) Voshell, Barbara Mosley (Gene Ehrlich), and Michael (Jema) Moody, nine grandchildren - Christopher Voshell (Catie), Rachel Voshell, Samantha Stewart (Scott), Sara Mosley (Anne), Lorne Mosley (Jalyssa), Justin Moody (Breanna), Timothy Moody (Brittany), Annette Riley, Becky Moody (Diana) and ten great grandchildren; Gage Voshell, Mason Brauckman-Voshell, Lily Stavropoulos, Athan Stavropoulos, Ryan Moody, Allison Foster, Andrew Foster, Matthew Foster, Melvin Binkerhoff, Lena Binkerhoff, Bella Morales, Leah Morales, his sister Nancy Morgheim of Georgia, brother Jack Moody (Eve) of Denver, sisters - in - law Shirley Hockaday of Greeley and Leila Emry of Denver, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Barbara and brother, Ron and brother in - law Jack Morgheim.
Celebration Of Life Service at Adamson Life Celebration Home will be on Friday August 16th, 2024 at 2:00PM with burial of cremains at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Reception to be held after at Century Masonic Hall located at 2532 9th Avenue in Greeley.
Memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels of Weld County, Shriners Hospital for Children or St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital.
