Benson, Ronald L., age 84 of Oakdale, passed away on July 3. 2024.

Born in South St. Paul on January 4, 1940. Preceded in death by his first wife, Joan; brothers William Shorack, Leroy, Eugene, Richard; sister Joann. Survived by his loving wife Carol; children Lynn (Brett) Twaddle, Dawn (Todd) Grant; son Ron; grandchildren Nicole, Erin, and Noah; and brother Clarence.

His early years were spent in So. St. Paul until the family moved to the East Side of St. Paul. He attended Harding High School. After high school he joined the Navy and served as a radioman on the USS Hornet. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he enrolled at the U of M to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering. Soon after his graduation, he started his career with the US Navy and moved to Indiana to work at Crane Naval Sea Systems Command. His job required a significant amount of traveling, and he, along with Joan and their children, lived in the Philippines for one year for one of his assignments.

Ron enjoyed music, playing the piano, golf, biking, tennis, and card games. He had a great sense of humor and many good stories about his life.

In his retirement years, he and Carol would travel throughout the US in his RV. Eventually they ended up in Florida where they spent their winters.

Sadly he will be missed by family and friends. His memory will live on forever in our hearts. Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101 or donor's choice.
