Gail Elizabeth Hovick
January 1st, 1947 - July 24th, 2024
Gail was a beloved mother, grandma, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, known for her love of parties and flower arrangements, caring for and helping loved ones, and spoiling her grandkids.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gail Elizabeth Hovick. Born the first baby of the year on January 1, 1947, she left us on July 24, 2024 at the age of 77. Gail was a beloved mother, grandma, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, known for her love of parties and flower arrangements, caring for and helping loved ones, and spoiling her grandkids. Gail’s life was a testament to compassion, creativity, and dedication, exemplified by her distinguished 35-year career as a nurse.
Gail’s professional journey encompassed various specialties, including obstetrics, home health care, and cystic fibrosis. She dedicated her final professional years to advancing research with the Therapeutics Development Network (TDN) at Seattle Children’s Hospital, significantly impacting many lives. Beyond her professional work, Gail’s caring spirit extended to her personal life. She was always available to support and care for her loved ones, whether sending encouraging gifts and cards, attending doctor appointments, visiting those in need, or providing comfort and assistance during transitions to death.
Outside of her professional and personal caregiving, Gail was renowned for her extraordinary creativity. Every party she decorated was a masterpiece, adorned with her signature touch. She had a deep love for ribbon, amassing hundreds of rolls at home, and her gifts were always wrapped with exquisite care. A card from Gail was never just a card—it was an experience, often accompanied by a delightful burst of confetti.
Gail is survived by her husband (of 50 years & 38 days), Jim; her son, Adam, and daughter-in-law, Kathryn; her daughter, Meghan, and son-in-law, Jonathan; along with her favorite people - her four grandchildren: Sophia (16), Gunnar (13), Anna (13) & Livia (9). Gail also leaves behind many dear friends and extended family members who will remember her with deep affection and gratitude.
A celebration of life service to honor Gail will be held on August 25th at 2pm, at the Edmonds Library Plaza Room. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) in Gail's honor. Contributions can be made online at www.pancan.org. Gail died just 6 weeks shy of celebrating 9 years of remission from pancreatic cancer.
